Pigmentation and Blemishes
Hyperpigmentation– This brown discoloration can occur after the skin is inflamed or irritated. Conditions such as acne, melasma, eczema, insect bites, and scratching can cause hyperpigmentation. Some medications (both topical and oral) and chemicals applied to the skin can cause discoloration. Treatments include chemical peels, laser therapy, topical medications or a combination. These treatments are offered at The Center for Dermatology and Ponce Med Spa.
Hypopigmentation (lightened areas of skin)- This secondary skin lightening can occur with eczema, acne, scratching and bug bites. Treatment of the skin condition can resolve the lightened pigmentation. Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease that can also cause lightened areas of skin. Treatment requires prescription medication.
Redness– The most common cause of red discoloration is sun damage. Other causes include rosacea, acne, and seborrheic dermatitis. The latter respond to customized therapies such as prescription medication and specific over the counter cleansers. Dr. Morris and Dr. Howell offer numerous laser treatments to improve your redness. Personal evaluation is recommended in order to customize your therapy.
